In defending China's core interests of sovereignty and territorial integrity, new Chinese Air Force capabilities, doctrine and training combine to support an unacknowledged anti-access strategy. While Chinese anti-access capabilities cannot yet match U.S. capabilities, they have contributed to U.S. concerns over future Chinese power projection, as well as misperceptions about "preemptive" Chinese military doctrine. If not clarified, these factors create potential for dangerous strategic miscalculations on both sides of the Pacific, particularly if renewed tensions over Taiwan occur.
