The Three Kingdoms of Nerahdis are no more. After the death of the Archimage, Rhydin works to establish his unified empire by wiping out any vestigial resistance, closing his iron grip on the throat of Nerahdis. However, his reign hinges upon keeping his vast magical powers a secret from his new people.

When the Rounan Compound is discovered and attacked by the new emperor's forces, Lina and her friends are forced to become wanderers, fighting to save their children and to found a rebellion against Rhydin. Not only must they recruit others to their cause, but they must find an heir to Auklia's throne if they have any hope of truly overthrowing him. Battling secrets, betrayals, and dark magic poisoning the land and its people, Lina must gather her army and expose Rhydin as a sorcerer at all costs before he becomes unstoppable.
