Resistance is inspired by the poets Rene Char and Yannis Ritsos - as well as the photographer Josef Koudelka and his photographs of Prague from 1968. Both poets were active members of resistance movements during and after World War II: Char as a leader of the Marquis in southern France during the Nazi occupation; and Ritsos in Greece whilst under threat of falling into the hands of a right-wing junta after years of Nazi control. In Prague, 1968, Koudelka documents the resistance of the people of Prague to the Soviet forces who had invaded to bring down the more liberal communist regime of Alexander Dubček.

In Resistance Colin Campbell Robinson reminds us of the necessity to maintain vigilance and to emulate those who oppose tyranny in its various forms. This has assumed increasing urgency in the contemporary world.

'The black and white photographs counterpoint the text. As a result, the text appears as an arrested, restrained spiritual call. The words seem to enter the visual spatiality of the image and are released there. The reader recognises the place - a place we all have been. And this is felt de profundis.'

- Amie Anthony

'All beautiful poetry is an act of resistance'.

- Mahmoud Darwish
