In 1861, Irish immigrant Hannah Donovan is unjustly accused of murdering her employer, Titus Foote. Hoping to leave memories of that awful time behind her, she flees Connecticut and migrates south, to Yorktown, Virginia, where she still remains in ghostly form to watch over her descendants.

After a century and a half, the spirit of Titus has caught up to Hannah, seeking revenge. He still believes she killed him, and he vows to annihilate her living family.

Cleve Farrington, the handsome new stranger in town, is very interested in Katie Hollister. But Katie can’t date—she has a secret, and it has nothing to do with the fact that she lives with the ghost of her great-great-great grandmother.
