A great revival of religion took place in the Northern Highlands of Scotland during the latter part of the eighteenth century. God brought thousands of men and women to be humble and faithful followers of Christ. They were noted as exercised and consistent Christians who delighted in the doctrines of grace.
Angus MacGillivray was well placed to write an account of this remarkable period. From 1828 to 1841 he was the parish minister of Strathy on the north coast of Sutherland and knew many people who had become shining examples of godliness. He traces the history of the revivals in a number of localities in Ross-shire and Sutherland, describing the effects of the revival and illustrating this by short biographies of some eminent Christians.
