This book contains stories about the life of a young WWII refugee from Southeast Germany who with her parents barely escaped capture, or even death, by the fiercely fighting Russian troops who were destroying towns on their way to defeat Germany. The cannon shots were already heard from the outskirts of town. There was talk that there would only be one more train leaving west-ward to carry passengers to the safety of central Germany and then the station would shut down. They were able to board the overcrowded train and head for central Germany, which was already overcrowded. They found shelter, and Rosel went to school and was confirmed in Neustaedt, Thuringia and adapted to life in a small village though later on the determination to survive brought them all to West Germany. In 1952, Rosel came to the United States of America to begin a new life. The stories in this book were written because our children, other family members and friends wanted to know how she celebrated Christmas and had other questions. They always wanted to know a little more. Older friends also enjoyed the stories and asked to hear more.
