A person’s marital status impacts team relationships. Singleness is not a problem to be fixed. Marriage is not the end-all goal for everyone. At times we have equated maturity with marriage, idealized marriage. and devalued singleness. Married people think they understand singleness because they were single once. Single people have high ideals of what marriage is like. Both make assumptions of what life is like for the other. We come to teams with varying expectations of what team life should be. Ideas and positive practices—from 289 missionaries, representing 12 mission agencies—are offered, which not only build unity and understanding of each other, but enable greater effectiveness in ministry.
