The history of Saframbolu from the foundation of the town in Hellenistic era to 1923 is narrated here in. Saframbolu is a town in the place where the ancient hellenistic city of Dadybra existed in Asia Minor, Turkey of today. Before 1923 and the exchange of population between Greece and Turkey there were about 3000 Greeks living in Safranbolu. After the exchange of population took place they came and settled in Greece. In Saframbolu the Greeks had a church build, devoted to St Stefan. According to the tradition, their church was founded in the 4th century a.d. by empress Eudokia. An inscription on marble stone describes the foundation of the church and the dedication of a relic to the church by the empress, a part of the left leg of the martyr. The Dadibra was captured by Seljuks in 1196 and the Greeks fled the town, except some families which settled in Kirankoey, were they lived until 1923.
