Sago Palm

This open access book addresses a wide variety of eventsand technologies concerning the sago palm, ranging from its botanicalcharacteristics, culture and use to social conditions in the placeswhere itis grown, in order to provide a record of researchfindings and to benefit society. It discusses various subjects, including the sago palm and related species; differentiation of species ofstarch-producing palm; habitat, morphological, physiologicaland growth characteristics; culture andmanagement; productivityof carbon dioxide; starch extraction and manufacture; characteristics andutilization of starch; and cultural anthropological and folkloristic aspects. Problemssuch as food shortages due to increasing populations, global warming andclimate change, and decreasing reserves of oil and other underground resources,have becomemore pressing in recent years.
