Salt in an Unsavory World

People can make a difference in the world around them, and Velma had done just that for a number of years. As a CASA, or court-appointed special advocate, this elderly lady had given of her time and effort to help young children, who would otherwise have to live in revolting and degrading conditions. After the court system placed children in foster care, Velma would then give them hope and love that replaced the fear and uncertainty that they had experienced with their biological parents.
One day, in an unbelievable set of circumstances, she had to be rushed to the hospital when a young teenage boy on his bicycle knocked her down while she waited for a bus. Her six children kept a vigil at her bedside as she lay in a coma, steadfast in their belief that God would heal her.
