Jules Bois has moved resolutely into the scarcely known territories of the Satanism. He has traversed them in all directions, visiting their ruins, following their history through the ages, linking it to our century, and his book is the result of these scholarly excursions, the product of these immense readings, which he offers us, sifted in a fine sieve of art, in this volume entitled: "Satanism and Magic".
Here we can see the ancient traditions rejuvenated. Without dwelling on works already examined by others, the author has resorted to forgotten files and unpublished texts, and has taken curious notes from the Bastille Archives, from the manuscripts of the National Library and, above all, from those of the Arsenal, so rich in grimoires and documents on spagyric science, demonography and the practices of witchcraft and necromancy.
Finally, he has studied Cornelius Agrippa, the only writer who, in short, has put in writing the true liturgy of the infernal ceremonies, the hypocritical and cautious formulas that allow man to enter into relations with the spirits of the beyond.
In the more modern part. Bois necessarily had to gather and arrange an enormous mass of parts. Thus he was able to paint, from life, the physiognomy of the contemporary sorcerer and witch, so easily confused by all with the sleepwalkers and ignorant tricksters who swarm in the underworld of the cities.
From this profusion of reports, dossiers, letters and extracts from the works of demonographers, Jules Bois has been able to construct a condensed book, and also a well-finished one, thanks to which the reader can take in at a glance the whole panorama of Satanism and Magic, since this work provides us with a complete itinerary of the subject.
