Agriculture is the dominant activity in hill economy. For enhancing efficiency of agriculture, there is a need of improved innovative and scientific technology to raise production and productivity. The emerging expectations of food and nutrition security, employment and environmental protection calls scientific methods of cultivation for higher productivity per unit of land, labour, water and other resources in an equitable and sustainable manner. In order to achieve the farming sector as a commercial and profitable enterprise, there is need to develop farm technologies which are simple, cost effective, location specific, eco-friendly, economically viable and socially acceptable by the all farming community. The farming communities need to be fully exposed to latest technologies that help them enhance crop productivity, reducing production cost and improving food safety to realize ultimate high economic returns.
