Stephen C. Mercado has written a pioneering study of the Imperial Japanese Army's Nakano School, which trained spies, intelligence officers, and commandos between 1938 and 1945. Working in the shadows, its graduates raided Allied targets, attempted to subvert British rule in India, and organized guerrillas for the final defense of Japan.
