When I flew into China from Canada, I didn't land until two days later. The flight was only eleven hours. When I returned, I landed before I'd left. I always thought it was some dumb phenomenon due to crossing the dateline. I couldn't have been more wrong. China had taken a dizzying grip on my life and wouldn't let go until it was done with me, or I was dead. It was safe to say, I'd been Shanghai'd.
