Calina has lived her whole life devoted to the last surviving goddess, Difana. On a cold night, marked by a red star, her destiny comes to claim her in the form of Prince Farwenk.

He claims that she will be the ruination of this world if she doesn't fall madly in love with him. Taking her away from her home, he regales her with a new life of riches.
