Sienna stood up for what she believed to be right on her home world of Sanctum. She solved a murder, she saved the life of the young Satori representative Burke, and she experienced the sweet taste of freedom usually denied to those of her gender and station.

In contrast to Sanctum, Arbor is a peaceful planet whose people are dedicated to alleviating suffering in their communities. They've even developed an innovative technology called Second Life that transforms certain lucky citizens into tree-like beings, extending their lifespans indefinitely.

In some ways Sienna fits in on Arbor better than she does among the Satori. But she soon discovers that even Arbor has its shadows, and she is once again forced to choose how much she'll sacrifice for the chance to effect change.
