Steel Quarters, is the name of a real community. It is a place where the people stood strong; exemplified love, strength and togetherness. This was the community of Theola's birth place. Steel Quarters has become a metaphor to the women in this book, particularly, Theola's life; her love of family, and her commitment to community, their strength and endurance. The authority and responsibility that the residents of Steel Quarters demonstrated in raising their children and being a mentor to those who needed family became Theola's role model.
