It is a widely accepted paradigm in oncology that stem cells are the cells of origin of most, if not all, malignancies. Discoveries of mechanisms unique to stem cells will serve as molecular targets for new drug development and lead to new, more effective approaches to cancer therapy and chemoprevention.
