Surgical Oncology: Clinical Principles and Practice

Surgery is the primary mode of treatment for solid, isolated tumors. It can have a significant impact in the prolongation of survival and palliation. After a biopsy is performed on the affected area to determine the presence or absence of the cancer along with the stage of cancer, surgery is performed. In localized cancer, surgery is done to remove the entire mass and in certain cases the lymph nodes.
