Dr. Knute Lee is an authentic survivor, having been on the verge of death again and again. Yet at 69 he is alive, fit, strong and active, even though he walked away from six wrecked Naval aircraft. He attributes this to the grace of God, and gives Him the glory.

Knute Lee has been a day laborer, an itinerant harvest hand, a railroad gandy dancer, truck driver, a dance band musician, a carpenter's assistant, a counselor, an author. He has driven cabs in New York and Seattle, and has stood bow-plane watches aboard the submarine U.S.S. Whale. He flew patrol planes, seaplanes, dive bombers and fighters during World II in the Pacific.

The author has been a teacher in junior high, high school, college, university, theological seminary, and currently serves as part-time faculty at Luthern Bible Institute-Seattle. He has served congregations as pastor for more than fifteen years in Brooklyn, Long Island, Iowa and Washington.

His doctorate is from Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary, and he once taught Martha Foley's short story writing class at Columbia. In June, 1984 he won three "gold" medals in the Master's (old people) Track and Field Meet at the University of Washington, where his speed in the half-mile was 2:29. His exploits in World War II were televised on ABC-TV. He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross for "gallantry and intrepidity in action," and the Silver Star for "Conspicuous heroism."
