Sutton Past and Present

Sutton has had a restless history. Buildings have been demolished, sites redeveloped and roads redrawn. Changes have been frequent and radical, and little apparently stays the same. Yet for all that Sutton is a town rooted very firmly in the past. Its shape is determined by the tracks around field boundaries and early routes to London. It is what has remained the same as well as what has changed that this book celebrates. Local journalist and writer Sara Goodwins has carefully selected over 100 old photographs and compares them with the scene today to illustrate both continuity and change. Many of these pictures are previously unpublished and will be of great interest to anyone who knows the area, as resident or commuter.
