Document from the year 2014 in the subject Biology - Zoology, Punjabi University, language: English, abstract: Trichoptera (caddisflies) are economically one of the most important insect order whose immature stages are totally dependent on aquatic ecosystem. In India order Trichoptera is represented by 27 families, containing 1046 species under 94 genera. Trichoptera is one of the largest insect order whose immature stages are totally aquatic. This book presents an in-depth knowledge about the current status of Plenitentoria group of caddisflies covering different aspects like Taxonomy, Biogeographic distribution of different species in India and other continents, Diagnostic combination of each taxon. Some already described species occurring in India have been again re-described in this book based on different morphological approaches with main stress on male and female genitalia. New species have also been described based on male and female genitalia along with other morphological structures. In aggregate 77 species have been touched in this book belonging to 11 genera and 7 Families. In general a detailed account of each species like Material depository, material examined, collection data, distribution and diagnostic combinations has been given. This book will be useful for studying taxonomy of Indian caddisflies along with other neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bhutan, China, Pakistan and Myanmar. This book will also be useful for using caddisflies as biological indicators of water pollution in India.
