Tell Us When To Go

The post-recession Bay Area is a land fertile for world-changers and dreamers. This is the setting for Tell Us When To Go, a millennial coming-of-age story, part Silicon Valley satire and part urgent glimpse into of the darker sides of privilege, troll culture, and class disparity. It asks the question, what comes of a friendship, or a city, with so much splitting it apart? Can it be saved?

In college, Cole Gallegos is the star pitcher everyone looked up to. He is on his way for sure-big league baseball. That all comes tumbling down when he gets a bad case of the "yips." Unable to pitch any longer, his college career-and his long dreamed of future-is washed up.

Cole's best friend, Isaac Moss, is lucky to even warm the bench. Isaac has few dreams, being a more muddling through life sort of person. But Isaac looks up to Cole, perhaps seeing him as everything he is not. And Cole looks after Isaac, giving him a taste of the social life his otherwise would never have.

With college behind them, Cole and Isaac move into a grimy San Francisco apartment together. They search for their next move, each on different paths, colored by disappointment for Cole and opportunity for Isaac.

Cole finds himself in a public school, working one on one with a truant foster youth, Dizzy, who is one strike from getting expelled. Cole is lost as to how he could possibly succeed or even simply communicate with her, but he doesn't quit. He sees something in her, and she slowly begins to trust him, if only a bit. Together they build a strange and tenuous relationship as Cole finds his eyes opening to the ongoing chaos and bias against the city's disadvantaged.

Meanwhile Isaac is hired as a temp at a growing startup in Silicon Valley, where he enjoys breakrooms with hammocks and teambuilding beer-tastings. Soon he is on his way on the well-traveled path to tech industry fortune. He makes new friends, very different from his old-these guys have the world by the balls and know it, as they consume San Francisco as the hot commodity it is becoming.

With such different days and perspectives, Cole and Isaac begin to diverge, much like the city itself. Tell Us When To Go asks: is the future cast, or is something of their past worth saving?
