The Abolition Movement

This anthology brings to life the reality of England's transatlantic slave trade and the movement to end its practice in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Published here are anti-slavery poems by William Cowper and Robert Southey; Thoughts and Sentiments on the Evil of Slavery, a slave narrative by Ottobah Cugoano; and four abolitionist essays: Brief Considerations on Slavery, To the Friends of the Abolition of the Slave Trade, A Letter on the Greater Necessity of an Abolition of the African Slave Trade, and Hints for a Specific Plan for an Abolition of the Slave Trade.
