George McCutchen McBride provides an anthropological study of the agrarian Indian communities located in the highlands of Bolivia. The book examines the history, economy, social structure, and religious beliefs of these communities, as well as their relations with the state and other social groups. The study is based on fieldwork conducted by the author in the 1950s.
