The Amniote Nose

There is a lack of comprehensive work integrating state-of-the-art knowledge on vertebrate sensory organs. The proposed volume fills this void for the nose of amniotes (mammals, reptiles, birds). Unlike other paired sense organs, the nose combines its primary sensory function - olfaction - with other important but under-appreciated physiological functions. The book details differences and similarities in form and function of the nose, and highlights areas of knowledge still requiring investigation. This is the first volume to combine various aspects of biologic investigation of a single sensory organ in vertebrates. Further, the book has important applications for biomedical research.
