The Second Army Maneuvers were part of a series of annual military training exercises that would occur across the United States in the second half of the 1930's. In 1934, a GHQ Command Post Exercise (CPX) was held in New Jersey, which laid the groundwork for the "physical" maneuvers that would follow. In 1935 the First Army Maneuvers were held in Camp Pine (now Ft. Drum) New York, that same year also saw the Fourth Army hold a CPX in Ft. Lewis, Washington. In 1936 the Army held the Second Army Maneuvers in the V Corps Area of Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and the VI Corps area near Camp Custer, Michigan which is the subject of this work.
