Although Carbine looks like any other big metropolis, there's a seedy underbelly where crime is king and money is the law - and nobody knows the laws of the land Elias, Keith, and Blake whose livelihood revolves around coming up with scheme after scheme to make a living. Slade, Ben, and Rupert are smart and capable but willful and difficult enough to make the Crawlers split hairs. Can they somehow guide their smart aleck Triggers to do their bidding? But before the new Triggers have even had time to settle into their new boots, things start to spiral out of control as they tend to do in Carbine. When a gang of strangers invade the Crawlers' home turf, they find out just who they're up against and it doesn't look good. With the infamous crime boss of the city hounding them, Keith, Elias, and Blake have to find out how to disappear again.

The Crawlers haven't had much time to explore the pasts of their new wards with everything that has been going on, and when they find out just how traumatic things have been for the Triggers under the guardianship of the Chameleon, they're livid. Blake has always felt responsible for his ward and Trigger Ben although he knows that he should keep his distance. However, when Ben finds himself mortal danger because of Blake's mistakes, he knows he has to rescue him. But things don't go exactly as planned because Chameleon has been busy working their dark science on the young Trigger.

The past has a way of making a reappearance at the wrong time. When a person from Triggers' past pushed their way back into their lives, the Crawlers don't know what to do. Should they intervene? Or should they trust their wards to handle the situation? Meanwhile, the Crawlers can never say no to an exciting new job and when they are faced with the biggest and most elaborate one of their lives, the Crawlers jump at the opportunity along with their wards. However, what should have been a smooth and simple operation turns complex when they find out that an evil force is manipulating them and plotting their downfall.
