Learning Disability In today's era, students are exposed to a highly competitive environment amidst constant stress and pressure to excel in their education. Further, parents are more concerned than ever regarding their child's performance and academic development in schools. However, apart from the evident reasons such as negligence, less of practice, etc., there are significant other factors that could lead to poor academics for a child. Learning Disability is one of the significant causes that hamper a child's growth and development. Children with learning disabilities can have perfectly normal IQ level; however, in specific scenarios, their academic results are poor irrespective of all their efforts to be at par with their peers. It can be hard for parents to know whether things are normal or not. Learning disability is a general term that refers to a group of disorders which are due to identifiable or inferred central nervous system dysfunction. These may be manifested by delays in early development or difficulties in any of the following areas: Attention, Memory, Reasoning, Co-ordination, Communication, Spelling, Calculation, Social Competence, and Emotional Maturation. Learning disabilities are intrinsic to the individual and may affect learning and behaviour in individuals with average or above-average intelligence. These are not because of visual, hearing, motor or cognitive impairments, emotional disturbance, or environmental disadvantage. These may arise from genetic, biochemical factors or events resulting in neurological impairment. Further, it is a neurological disorder. In simple terms, a learning disability may result from a difference in the way a person's brain is wired. Children with learning disabilities are at par with their peers in terms of smartness.
