The First Gentleman of the United States

The president's body lay next to her bed. She had been described as the most popular president since Kennedy, and her romance with her Australian boyfriend-and their marriage-had captured the imagination of an America tired of partisan politics and scared by Covid. She had proved herself a smart member of the Republican Party: worldly, knowledgeable, young, attractive, and a more than capable candidate. Indeed, she was the darling of the GOP, but only while she was useful to them.

And even though she had to compete for the Oval Office against an incumbent president from her own party-and force the party's hand when its senior leadership turned on her-she prevailed, and ushered in a new era for the United States as it grappled with its status as a declining world superpower, while China's position in global geopolitics was rapidly rising.

Now the First Gentleman had been accused of her assassination and of espionage on behalf of China. He claims he didn't do it, but all evidence points to the contrary.    

Was he a spy? Or was he the husband of the most powerful woman in the world, forced into a corner?
