The Fountain of Bandages is a collection of poems by Nicholas Mason-Browne, a Canadian poet and scholar who has lived in Iowa for many years.
These song-texts have emerged over a lifetime of curiosity and inquiry, but never seek to impart answers. To quote Mason-Browne's afterword: "Uncertainty is involved in everything I say or do, and it is built inescapably into the way I write. I might go so far as to suggest that, for me, uncertainty has, over time, taken on a spurious life of its own and even come to be a sort of organizing principle."
Some of these collected works have been previously published, including in Prism International, The Malahat Review, The Southern Poetry Review, Fiddlehead, The Iowa Journal of Literary Studies, Blue Unicorn, Colere, The Coe Review, and The Garden Quarto; one appeared under a pseudonym in 100 Words. Mason-Browne has also published in scholarly journals, including the Walt Whitman Quarterly Review. A CD of some of his poetry, titled Battered, Ephemeral Tune, was recorded in 2019.
Mason-Browne earned his PhD in Spanish from the University of Iowa under the mentorship of Chilean poet Oscar Hahn, one of South America's most celebrated writers. He is professor emeritus at Coe College.
