The Historical Jesus and the Mythical Christ

Gerald Massey was an Egytologist who wrote a tremendous body of schorarly work in the earliest part of the twentieth century. What he concluded was that much of christianity and its belief structure can be found in far earlier forms of Egyptian mythology. At first this sounds like a rather strange theory. Upon hearing it, most people who've been brought up us Christians "turn the switch" on the idea, as it's often been termed. The idea is completely shut down without much consideration, if any. Too much has been invested in a sacred belief system to have it damaged or even destroyed in a couple of hours by one book. A defense mechanism kicks in and the idea is immediately shut down before it can melt down the core of christian belief.
