The Holocaust and the Postmodern

This book argues that postmodernism is a response to the Holocaust, and because of this, offers a new range of perspectives. This book offers new ways of looking at testimony, like Primo Levi and Elie Wiesel, and recent Holocaust fiction like Anne Michael's Fugitive Pieces, Jonathan Safran Foer's Everything is Illuminated and the false memoir of Benjamin Wilkomirski. It explores controversies in Holocaust history, such as the debate over Daniel Jonah Goldhagen's Hitler's Willing Executioners and the David Irving/Deborah Lipstadt Libel trial. It looks at the importance of the Holocaust for recent philosophy and what the Holocaust means for reason, ethics, and for being human.
