The Indian Tribes of Guiana

Written in the late nineteenth century, this book is an account of the customs and beliefs of the indigenous tribes of what is now Guyana. The author, a missionary, describes the social and economic organization of the tribes, as well as their religious practices. His work is an early example of the kind of ethnography that was to become more common in the twentieth century, and remains an important source for scholars of South American cultures.
