The King's Cameo, a novel about King Louis 15th and The Marguise de Pompadour.

All the King's life had felt a vast sense of loneliness in his heart, from time to time, something in his nature that no woman could satisfy, and time went by slowly be began to realize that it was something in himself that kept him bored, constantly seeking new relationships and events of an exticiting nature; something that geoded him on to search for the new, untried and the unreachable: until he reached it, until bored, cast it aside and went searching again. The pattern repeated itself, over and over again. Only the Marguise du Pompadour with her listing to him, and her gentle understanding of his nature brought him any peace. She was his and more and more he began to realize how very she ment to him------a King!
With the new theater movement, the King converted the great beautiful Stairway of Lousi XIV, one the showpieces of Versailles into a new theater for Madmae de Pompadour. It took the craftsmen and carpenters quite a while to build. It was years before the stage could be used. The new establishment was functional and could be taken down so that the area could be used for affairs of state.
The King had eyes only for (Reinette) Madame de Pompadour and she had eyes only for him.
The King gave Madame de Pompadour the Cameo made with his likeness with 600 white diamonds on it.
The Marquise help the King's Cameo to her soft cheek as she remember their days together as lovers-how passionate he had been, how thoughtful and generous, and she had been just as understanding of his Royal Majesty!
"Louis, -----Louis," she murmured.
