This is the third and final volume of the complete annotated translation of the correspondence of St. Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179). Hildegard was one of the most remarkable women of pre-modern times. She was the author of six major treatises, founded two important monasteries, wrote music that is still performed today, presided over the creation of the earliest full-fledged morality play, and became the correspondent and adviser of popes, kings, an emperor, and numerous others representing a cross-section of medieval society. The letters in Volume III were written to members of the laity (including such notables as Frederick Barbarossa and Eleanor of Aquitaine) and to the rank and file of religious communities. With the publication of this volume, Hildegard's entire correspondence will now be available in English for the first time.
