The Library in the Woods

When Junior moves from the countryside to Roxboro, North Carolina, in 1959, his whole life changes. Instead of sharecropping, his father works at the lumber mill, and his mother takes in laundry from the white people in town. Junior meets new friends who have a TV--and their own books! These friends bring him to a place he's never heard of: the Negro Library. For him, it feels miraculous, and he checks out a book for himself and one for each of his parents.
