The Mermaid and the Ice Cube Necklace

Mermaids like pretty things. Maia's mermaid friend, Trezzie sees the ice cubes Maia and Fig have brought for their picnic. She wants a necklace. Maia uses a straw to blow holes in the ice cubes while Trezzie gets a string. Trezzie can't blow holes in ice cubes because she is not warm-blooded. Fig can't see Trezzie, but she believes Trezzie is around somewhere. She sees the ice cube necklace floating away as Trezzie swims with it. She jumps into the lake to get it back, but gets a leg cramp. Trezzie gives her the necklace to use a life preserver and then tows her to shore. Fig is more sure than ever that Trezzie is real, and she learns about the physics of ice cubes.
