The Nightingale and the Rose / 夜莺与玫瑰

'She said that she would dance with me if I brought her red roses'

"她说，如果我给她带上红玫瑰，她会和我一起跳舞"

'but in all my garden there is no red rose' cried the young Student

"可是我的花园里没有一朵红玫瑰，"年轻的学生喊道

from her nest in the holm-oak tree the nightingale heard him

夜莺从她在圣栎树上的巢穴里听到了他的声音

and she looked out through the leaves, and wondered

'No red rose in all my garden!' he cried

and his beautiful eyes filled with tears

'On what little things does happiness depend!'

'I have read all that the wise men have written'

'all the secrets of philosophy are mine'

'yet for want of a red rose my life is made wretched'
