This book would discuss how North Tulsa went from being a prominent business area to what it has become now; where it is more service oriented and less involved in economic development. In this book, I will discuss my thoughts on how North Tulsa can come back to prominence. I will discuss how North Tulsa can change its own culture and identity. My family grew up in North Tulsa. North Tulsa has such a stigmatism that I believe is hugely false. You will find houses boarded up at a higher percentage than houses of East Tulsa, West Tulsa and, South Tulsa. Property values for houses in North Tulsa may be less than the property value of a houses in East Tulsa, West Tulsa, and South Tulsa. But why is that? Why can you buy a house for eight thousand dollars in North Tulsa but you cannot find that same boarded up house in East or South or West Tulsa. Why is that? This book looks to explain that, along with the other questions that people may have about North Tulsa. North Tulsa was once an area where over 600 black owned businesses were housed. North Tulsa was an area where African-American people could have the resources they needed to be successful. North Tulsa was a business hub in the early 1900's. An area in North Tulsa was Black Wallstreet for its booming commerce. The members of the Black Wallstreet realized that if their needs were going to be met, they had to create their own solutions. The spirit of the entrepreneurs, doctors, educators, public officials, and builders is alive in present day North Tulsa. The lives of thousands of men, women and children may have been lost during the massacre called the Tulsa Race massacre, but the slayed lineage lives on to this day.I personally believe North Tulsa has a huge opportunity that is being missed by the residents of North Tulsa as well as members of the communities outside of North Tulsa. Depending on who you talk to, North Tulsa is almost like its own suburb; such as Broken Arrow or Jenks. Some people don't consider North Tulsa a part of Tulsa. Which is significantly false. I also believe there's been a systematic approach by some to move development further north but not call it North Tulsa development. But instead calling it downtown development. This book looks to question and identify opportunities, review strengths, weaknesses, and threats of the great area of north Tulsa.North Tulsa is not only a significant part of American history but it is also a metaphor for so many communities in America. You can find a North Tulsa in every city in the United States. This book speaks to all of those communities and the surrounding communities that have forgotten about the greatness that is possible in those communities.
