Catrin Sayer is back in art crime investigation, in the 'elite' Art and Antiques Unit at New Scotland Yard. As she joins a major investigation into an international art crime ring, a senior Home Office bureaucrat sends her to a village in mid-Wales. She is to resolve 'quietly' an issue around a painting found in the home of a recently deceased judge.
As she balances the competing caseload, a deacon at the local church comes into her sights. John Farrell had been open about his past life of crime and imprisonment when appointed at St. Deiniol's.
