The Rat Scat

THE RAT SCAT is an early reader focused on children between three and six years of age. This

book’s purpose is to assist the new reader in discerning clues about the words that move the

story forward. The Rat Scat will focus on the following vocabulary:

cat, sat, mat, rat, scat

ran, man

on, saw, by

A few words are introduced at a time and repeated while others form building blocks

for new words. By changing out one letter, a new word is formed that rhymes with the

previous word, reinforcing the general sound.
