The Sepoy Mutiny, 1857

The Sepoy Mutiny, provides a case study highlighting what can happen when a government, not rooted in the society it governs and composed of a people of a significantly different culture, becomes disassociated from the occupied culture. Great Britain, a Nineteenth Century super power with global influence, was caught by surprise when its Indian Army of Bengal mutinied and touched off three years of very violent and bloody warfare.
