The Singing Piano

The Singing Piano is an exciting and engaging adventure through which new music students learn to understand the wonderful world of piano playing. Lesson Book 1 was created with the older beginning student in mind - ages 9 and up. By focusing on specific skill sets students can enjoy the process of creating, listening, and moving with music. Mark Swope, a 30-year music education specialist, has laid out time-tested and research-based steps toward understanding and creating music on the piano. By presenting students with learning activities that appear logically in understandable sequences, Mr. Swope provides lessons that beginning students can enjoy. Students enjoy practicing and playing the piano while learning! Philosophies of noted Music Educators like Kodaly, Orff, Gordon, and Suzuki are seamlessly tied together in Music Learning Sequences while students move from what they know to what they will know! The Singing Piano lesson series uses tonal solfege and rhythm solfege as tools for understanding. Therefore, students will be moving, singing, chanting, and playing! In addition, they will become familiar with major and minor tonalities, and simple and compound meters right from the start! Engaging students in this way leads toward a deeper and more fulfilling relationship with their instrument and music.
