  • The Steal is a compelling week-by-week, state-by-state account of the attempts to challenge the results of the presidential election between November 3, 2020, and January 6, 2021, focusing on six states-Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
  • The book will include appendices detailing a list of the 140 members of congress who voted against the certification of the results, the sixty-three lawsuits filed and their outcomes, the letter signed by all ten living former Defense Secretaries released on Jan. 3, 2021, and other relevant primary documents.
  • Unlike other recent books covering Trump's last year in office, campaign, and the election, The Steal moves outside of Trump's inner circle, offering on-the ground reporting on local officials, party members, legislators, judges, and others who stood firm amidst threats and intimidation.
  • Bowden and Teague worked with a team of four additional researchers and reporters and the book includes exclusive interviews and significant new reporting on the aftermath of the election in each state.
  • Mark Bowden, a leading feature writer for the Atlantic, has regularly hit the New York Times bestseller list since Black Hawk Down (Grove, 1999). The Finish: The Killing of Osama bin Laden debuted on the list at #7. Bowden's 2017 book Hue 1968 was a New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and Indie bestseller.
  • Bowden's books continue to backlist strongly for us.
  • Matthew Teague is a journalist who's covered C.I.A. operatives in Pakistan, famine in Somalia, double agents in Northern Ireland. He is a contributor to National Geographic, the Atlantic, Esquire, Sports Illustrated, Men's Journal, and other magazines. Teague was a Nieman fellow at Harvard University in 2019.
  • In 2015, Teague wrote a 6,000-word essay for Esquire, titled "The Friend," about caring for his wife, Nicole, after she learned she had terminal cancer. It won a National Magazine Award and was made into a film, "Our Friend," starring Casey Affleck, Dakota Johnson, and Jason Segel.
