Within the purchase of Louisiana Territory by the United States in 1803, the vast, virgin territory of the upper Missouri River offered untold riches to enterprising and bold men. Streams choked with beaver attracted men from all walks of life, some drawn by the lust for wealth, some for the adventure and others to escape their past. For Benjamin Voss, it started as a quest for retribution and ended offering him a new way of life.
