"This flag has waved over the pioneers who cut down the forest trees and opened the way for those who followed, and has waved over the soldiers who, in the days gone by, fought against an invading enemy. It has seen great changes in the government of the country from the first day it floated over the citadel of Quebec to the grandest achievement of all, the confederation of the provinces.

It has been through all the years a flag of freedom and justice, and it is little wonder we fly our colors with proud hearts.

As we look over the history of Canada, it is hard to realize that the land on which Europeans first set foot, but little over four hundred years ago, is now a nation of happy, prosperous people. To the noble men and women who have lived before us and who live today, we owe Canada's progress and Canada's greatness.

Soon the school children will be men and women, and their country will be in their keeping. May they be as brave and noble as those who made Canada what she is, honoring the Maple Leaf and the Union Jack, and leaving to those who come after, an example of true loyalty. Thus may they do their part in guiding their country, ever onward and upward, through the years to come."
