The English Jacobites have been overshadowed by their colourful Scottish counterparts and the exploits of Bonnie Prince Charlie. The English Jacobites, no less important than the Scottish came from all walks of life, bishops, peers of the realm, smugglers and soldiers of fortune for example. They operated through a network of spies, underground clubs, and alehouses, creating a secret army dedicated to restoring the Stuart kings to the throne.
