The Wall Falls, a Woman Rises, a Memoir: How a U.S. Tech Entrepreneur Broke the Glass Ceiling and Helped Modernize Latvia

This is a story about the life of Dagnija Lacis, and her experiences, upheavals and transitions from one part of the world to another. It was a time when women were not readily accepted in IT or management. As an infant fleeing the Communist takeover of Latvia, immigrating to the U.S. from a displaced persons camp in Germany not knowing English, and entering a male-dominated IT world and becoming an executive line Vice-President, my path was never easy, but worth every challenge. Returning to Latvia, after 50 years of Communism, as the first government-invited person from the West, Dagnija was flooded with requests for information. But sadly, the selected solutions were not always in Latvia's best interests. Throughout the transitions, her main message is tenacity, and sticking to goals. When confronted with obstacles, don't give up, but find another path forward. It has been an adventure never to be repeated.
