The Pacific Rim region of Vancouver Island -- including the Clayoquot wilderness, Long Beach, Barkley Sound and the communities of Tofino, Ucluelet and Port Alberni -- has become one of western Canada's prime tourist destinations, drawing over a million visitors a year.
